Morpheus8 vs Ultherapy:
Which Skin Tightening Is Right for You?

By GetSkin Medical Spa  ·  February 2025  ·  6 min read

Two of the most frequently asked-about treatments at GetSkin are Morpheus8 and Ultherapy — and for good reason. Both deliver significant, non-surgical skin tightening without the recovery of a facelift. But they work very differently, and choosing the right one depends entirely on what your skin needs.

Here's the honest breakdown from our clinical team.

How Morpheus8 Works

Morpheus8 is fractional radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. A matrix of ultra-fine needles penetrates the skin to a precise depth — up to 8mm — while delivering RF energy directly into the dermis and subdermal tissue. This controlled thermal injury triggers the body's wound-healing response: new collagen formation, fat remodeling, and structural tightening.

Because the needles penetrate the skin, Morpheus8 also improves surface texture, scars, pore size, and fine lines — benefits that purely lifting-focused treatments can't match.

How Ultherapy Works

Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound to deliver energy at three precise tissue depths — including the SMAS layer, which is the same fibromuscular layer a plastic surgeon tightens during a surgical facelift. It doesn't break the skin surface. Instead, it creates thermal coagulation points deep in the tissue, stimulating long collagen fibers that produce a genuine lifting effect over 2–3 months.

Ultherapy is the only FDA-cleared non-invasive procedure specifically cleared to lift the brow, chin, and neck — and improve lines on the chest.

The combination approach:

Many of our most satisfied clients choose both — Ultherapy for deep structural lifting, Morpheus8 for surface refinement and texture improvement. The two treatments are complementary, not competing. We often recommend this combination for clients in their 40s and 50s seeking comprehensive rejuvenation.
